Biography

Manuel Tena-Sempere (1969) MD, PhD is (i) Professor of Physiology at the University of Córdoba; (ii) Group Leader at Maimonides Institute of Biomedical Research of Córdoba (IMIBIC), & (iii) PI of Research Group at the Spanish Network of Biomedical Research in Obesity and Nutrition. International expert in the field of Neuroendocrinology of Puberty, Reproduction and Metabolism, he has published more than 390 articles in international peer-reviewed journals, with over 39300 citations. He has got different international Awards, as the Richard E. Weitzman Award (US Endocrine Society, 2012), Alison Douglas Lecture of the British Neuroendocrine Society (2023), and Awards of the European Endocrine Society (ESE) – European Journal of Endocrinology (2011) and Geoffrey Harris Prize (2023), the highest honor of ESE. With >140 conferences, including plenary lectures at the most renowned congresses of his discipline, he is currently Editor-in-Chief of Endocrinology, the flagship journal of basic endocrine science of the American Endocrine Society.

Biography

Catalina Picó is Full Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB). She is Principal Investigator of the Nutrigenomics, Biomarkers and Risk Assessment (NuBE) research group at UIB, the Health Research Institute of the Balearic Islands (IdISBa), and the Spanish Biomedical Research Centre in Physiopathology of Obesity and Nutrition (CIBEROBN). She is Co-Director of the Master’s Degree in Nutrigenomics and Personalized Nutrition. She has served as Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and as a member of the Scientific Committee of the Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition (AESAN). She is co-author of nearly 200 scientific publications, 20 book chapters, and 2 books. Her research focuses on molecular nutrition and nutrigenomics, with particular interest in obesity and body weight regulation, metabolic programming, and biomarkers of health and disease.
